Taught by Gretchen Fancher
January 20, 2021 & January 27, 2021
This is a two part workshop meeting online Wednesday 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Learn to make toe up socks without a pattern, for any foot with any gauge of yarn!
Learn how to select yarn & needle, measure a foot and calculate your stitch target while you knit the toe. Then, learn how to determine when to start working the heel, knit a short row heel and you'll be on your way to spontaneous sock knitting!
In Session One students will learn the toe up cast on, begin to knit the toe, measure their foot, calculate gauge from the toe stitches and plan the rest of the sock. Homework between classes is to knit the foot of the sock so that in Session Two we can turn a short row heel. Please note that Session Two is 30 minutes longer to give us time to work the heel.
MUST know how to knit a small circumference in the round using either DPNs or magic loop. Experience knitting at least one pair of socks is recommended, but not required.
Yarn - DK or worsted weight smooth, plied yarn (I recommend thicker yarn for class in the interest of using our time efficiently, as well as making new techniques easier to work), preferably a blend of wool and acrylic, but superwash wool will work as well. Trendsetter Union, Universal Deluxe Worsted Superwash, are recommended.
Needles - One to two sizes smaller than you typically use for the weight of your yarn. Tight knitters should go down fewer sizes and loose knitters more.
Accessories - Stitch markers, scissors.
Any supplies purchased from The Local Yarn Store for use in this class will be discounted 10%.
Please be sure to have your supplies in hand before the first session!
After you register you will receive an invitation to the series of Zoom meetings that will comprise the class.
